Conservative Press Release

ALLESTREE AND DARLEY CANDIDATES JOIN FORCES TO FIGHT BUS LANES ON DUFFIED RD AND KEDLESTON RD

Allestree Ward Candidate Dr Steve Willoughby and Darley Ward Candidate Lorraine Radford are joining forces to oppose bus lanes on Duffield and Kedleston Roads.

The Duffield Road bus lane has already been installed and is causing traffic chaos for local residents travelling in and out of the City. In addition residents whose properties need to be accessed by crossing the bus lane face considerable danger in manoeuvring their vehicles.

Cyclists are also at risk from passing vehicles as they try to negotiate the road.

The bus lane for Kedleston Road is still at the planning stage but will be fiercely opposed by Conservative Councillors as it will damage local businesses, snarl up traffic and be a considerable hazard to local residents.

Dr Steve Willoughby said,

“ the bus lanes on Kedleston Road and Duffield Road have been very badly designed and not enough thought was given to the effect they would have on local residents and on local businesses. It is not good enough to say they will be reviewed in three months time. The experiment should be halted at once and the whole issue taken back to the drawing board. The residents need to be involved in much better consultation than they have had so far”.
